Geshwin Park
Gershwins Park Day Nursery
Gershwin Park, Children's Day Nursery for Seymour House.
Gershwin Park Children's Day Nursery is a new pre-school day nursery in Witham, Essex that demonstrates the value of great design. Our response to a complex brief has satisfied conflicting requirements of the different user groups; staff, parents and children, while maintaining layout flexibility to meet continuously evolving education standards and staffing.
The internal spaces have been designed to make best use of natural daylight, and finishes carefully chosen to evoke natural material and colours to crate a calm leaning environment where the children do not feel overwhelmed by their surroundings.
In addition to the 6 main home base learning spaces that are easily supervised, there are children scale sanitary facilities, a fully fitted commercial style kitchen, buggy storage, a welcoming reception area and self-contained staff spaces.
Each of the home-bases are loosely divided by surface changes to suit various types of learning/play and have direct access to a shared and secure, multi-surface, external play area. Finishes used for internal and external spaces have been selected to ensure these flow into one another, thereby encouraging free-flowing play that enriches the learning experience.

MB Brentford
Mercedes-Benz West London Showroom & Aftersales Centre
Car Dealership & Aftersales Centre
Revitalisation of an existing car dealership for Mercedes-Benz Retail Group UK Ltd in Brentford, fronting onto the Great West Road. The principle challenge was to develop a scheme which would be striking from the elevated section of the M4 motorway into London, but could be implemented with minimal disruption on site, allowing normal business operations to progress unimpeded.
As a result of difficult planning conditions and a demanding brief, an unorthodox design solution emerged, delivering a second floor car display gallery and the first 21 meter automated car display tower in the UK, to make maximum impact on the 136,000 drivers who pass by the site each day.

Evolve
Evolve Telecom Headquarters
New Offices, Southend-On-Sea.
Ayshford Sansome worked as the design architects for Talisprojects in a scheme to fully fit-out new office accommodation for a telecommunications company.
This project had a strict deadline to enable the client to move in as soon as the lease expired on their previous premises.
This contemporary office interior is located in the Shoebury Garrison, an area of national heritage. It’s history, archaeology, historic buildings, and its unique setting overlooking the mouth of the Thames Estuary are exceptional.
The mobile communications specialist now have a modern open-plan, air conditioned office, covering two floors totalling 770m² of space. Staff also have modern ‘breakout’ areas for social space, away from the bustle of this thriving business. All is completed to a very high standard of workmanship.

MB Dartford
Mercedes-Benz Dartford
Car Dealership & Aftersales Centre, Dartford
Ayshford Sansome were delighted to be involved in the construction of this brand-new car dealership that incorporated an emerging ‘first of its kind’ Mercedes-Benz company branding and showroom design language for the UK. In a high visibility location adjacent the Queen Elizabeth II bridge crossing the river Thames, our successfully leading the coordination between all parties to realise & translate the concept ideas into a construction method that was cost effective, buildable but without compromising the original intent was of particular importance.
Despite the plot's initial state as an unassuming, mostly weed covered brownfield site, there were significant construction challenges during the initial and pre-construction work stages to rid the site of high levels of contamination, coordinate the design around a major existing oil pipe line and coordinate undulating site levels.
The finished project with it’s unique inside/outside multi-level car showroom space, impressive cantilevered roof & drive-in service lobby has been extremely well received by end user and customers alike.

IPECO
IPECO Manufacturing Facility
IPECO Manufacturing Centre, Southend-On-Sea
This scheme was well underway before Ayshford Sansome were engaged by the client. As the scheme broke ground, we were appointed for the fit out of the 129,500 ft² manufacturing facility located at the Southend Airport Business Park. We worked intensively with the client, workshopping design ideas with stakeholders, to quickly develop a creative and practical design solution. Once the design direction was formulated, the next challenge was to integrate with the developers professional team and produce construction information to tie into the construction program without causing delays.
The facility accommodates IPECO’s manufacturing and training facilities including a state of the art surface treatment plant, semi-automated multi axis machine tools as well as smaller finishing tools. The factory manufactures components which are used in a large variety of products for the aviation industry ranging from the avionics of fighter jets through to crew seating on airliners and private jets.
To ensure the work flow within the machine hall area was correct, Ayshford Sansome undertook an extensive 3D CAD modeling exercise of the machine tools, laying them out in different configurations for the client to visualise and test out virtually, inhabiting the space months before it was built.

Centre of Excellence for Building Services
Our sixth skills training college for Procat (formerly Prospects) Learning Foundation opened in September 2012. The 3600m² centre contains skills training space for plumbing and electrical as well as being the first centre in the country for heating, ventilation, and refrigeration training. The project completes Procat Basildon Construction Campus and provides students with a 150 seat restaurant, learning resource centre and flexible break-out study space.
With an emphasis on the environment the design has a holistic approach using passive systems to utilise natural daylight as much as possible with light-wells and reflective plains to ensure this extends deep into the floor plans. Natural ventilation systems make use of newly developed phase change material technology to cool the building and manage C02 levels in teaching spaces. The centre has also been awarded BREEAM ‘very good’ standard for sustainable design and construction.

QVSR
The Queen Victoria Seaman's Rest
The Queen Victoria Seaman's Rest refurbished accommodation flats by Ayshford Sansome Architects. Providing sustainable Architecture and Green Architecture design services in Essex, London and Kent.
Refurbished accommodation facilities
Established in 1843 and known as QVSR; the building provides living accommodation for active and retired seafarers, ex-servicemen and other adults.
Based in the East End of London, QVSR has over the years refurbished many of its communal areas. The largest element of redevelopment by far started in 2008 on the bedrooms. This is still being carried out in a number of phases to minimise disturbance and displacement of residents.
2011 saw the completion of the Wesley Wing and the Royal British Legion Wing was officially opened by the late Barbara Windsor MBE.
Upon completion, the site will provide larger, high quality, en-suite accommodation, including accessible facilities for up to 160 residents, vastly improving the existing facilities where up to 15 men can share a communal bathroom.

Shoebury
Shoeburyness Library & Youth Centre
Shoeburyness Library & Youth Centre
The new Shoeburyness Library was opened in September 2015. Located on the first floor of the existing Shoeburyness Youth & Community Centre, this new multi-functional facility is accessible to people of all ages and includes an interactive and social area to encourage younger readers. This project is a result of the merger of the Thorpedene and Friars Libraries; the new library has longer opening hours, more books and is bigger than the existing facilities it replaces. Our design objective was to ensure the new library area was congruent with the wider SYC building. Hence we were careful to embrace many of the features of the original building design language and adapt them to suit the new library area. Integrating the new library into the existing SYC building offers the local community a greater choice of facilities in on ‘hub’. Liberal Democrat Councillor Graham Longely stated that “The new library offers something for everyone, is easily accessible and centrally located”.
SA Hadleigh

MB Epsom
Mercedes-Benz Epsom
Mercedes-Benz, Epsom
This new dealership sits on a once brownfield site in the heart of the motor retail district less than a mile to the North East of Epsom town centre. The brief demanded 3,325m² of accommodation on a site area only 7,260m² which also encompassed a 4m level difference across it.
These two factors lead to a novel design solution, dropping the external car display area down to the lower ground level along Kiln Lane where the passing public could easily view the vehicles, and providing a split-level car showroom serving the lower ground level and one at the upper ground level where customers arrive by car.
This unusual design response has proved to be very effective and has maximized the full potential from the site. The scheme is a good example of the value we can add to a project bringing our creativity and attention to detail to resolve seemingly conflicting demands.

MB Chelsea
Mercedes-Benz Chelsea
Car Dealership, Chelsea, London
Refurbishment has been completed on a motor retail show room for Mercedes-Benz UK at Cheyne Walk in Chelsea.
The design vision to open up the sales floor space was achieved using glass walls for the sales offices, and has created a strong boutique feel to the outlet – in keeping with its Kensington and Chelsea neighbours.
The showroom, located within a space which used to be a public house on the ground floor of a six story residential block, posed a number of unique challenges to both the design and construction team.
The work was split into two carefully planned phases, so that the dealership was kept open throughout the five months refurbishment.
